Peabody Finds Recognition at National Housing Awards
Peabody, who have recently merged with Family Mosaic to form a single corporation, has garnered further recognition at this year's National Housing Awards. Organised by the National Housing Federation and returning for eleventh year, the awards seek to celebrate outstanding achievement within the housing sector. This year, Peabody's excellence was recognised in three categories, winning awards for 'Best Design’, ‘Best Regeneration Project’ and 'Best Marketing Campaign’. The judges also recognised Peabody's leadership role within the sector by naming it the 'Overall Winner' of this year's awards – an award presented to the organisation that the judging panel feel has succeeded in moving the home ownership industry forward.
The 'Best Design' award - for the best affordable home ownership development with a high level of design excellence - was awarded to Peabody's Uptown Village development, which, among others, includes the sensitive refurbishment of five Victorian hospital buildings. Judges commented that the scheme is a ‘great concept, brilliantly executed, that should be an example for others. It demonstrates a sympathetic adaptation of a historic site, blending old and new successfully’.
Peabody's Silchester scheme, delivered through partnership with The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and providing 112 mixed-tenure homes, won the 'Best Regeneration Project'. The panel felt that the scheme best met the criteria for the award, which included creating sustainable and diverse communities while making efficient use of public and private funding and investment. Located directly opposite Latimer Road tube station, the scheme is designed around a communal garden; integrating an existing 20 storey tower within a new urban block.
And last but not least, the campaign promoting St John's Hill - a flagship regeneration project opposite Clapham Junction Station - was named 'Best Marketing Campaign' having demonstrated a true market-led approach and an in-depth understanding of the customer needs and wants.
These award-winning schemes equal a combined total of almost 1,000 new homes across the boroughs of Newham, Wandsworth and Kensington and Chelsea.
Brendan Sarsfield, Chief Executive of Peabody said: “We are very proud to be recognised for our commitment to providing high quality affordable homes for people on average incomes or lower.
We have ambitious plans to build many more homes; creating great places where people want to live, working with communities and promoting wellbeing.
Our success at these awards is testament to the hard work of colleagues across the organisation, and the support of our partners, including architects, builders and local authorities.
We look forward to continuing to work together to make the biggest difference for our residents and communities.”
Family Mosaic merged with Peabody in July 2017.
