Three bedroom family homes available through Shared Ownership

Family Mosaic have a wide variety of 3 bedroom family homes available through Shared Ownership. Shared Ownership is a part buy/part rent scheme, where you buy a share in the property and pay rent on the share you don’t own. It is designed as a stepping stone for first time buyers to completely owning your own home, allowing you to buy further shares in your property (which is called Staircasing) when you can afford to.

Shared Ownership eligibility criteria

To qualify for Shared Ownership you need to meet certain eligibility criteria, this will vary depending on which development you are looking at purchasing, the property size and whether there are any criteria imposed by the local authority. There are some overarching criteria such as being a first time buyer and meeting certain income requirements :

  • Your total household income needs to be no more than £90,000 per annum. A lower income threshold (£80,000) is applicable for developments outside London boroughs.

What size home can I buy through Shared Ownership?

When considering the purchase of a family home, you are allowed one more bedroom than your current housing need. For example :

  • Couple + 1 child = 3 bedrooms
  • Single person + 1 child = 3 bedrooms
  • Couple = 2 bedrooms
  • Single person = 2 bedrooms

A single person with a child or a couple with a child will be given a higher priority for a two bed property than a single person or a couple. The size of home you can buy will also depend upon what you can afford.
